Forage, Cook, Feast: A Seasonal Adventure at Ground Up Cookery School

Discover the art of creating delicious meals using foraged, seasonal, and local ingredients in the heart of the stunning Devon countryside. This unique two-part course combines the thrill of foraging with the joy of cooking, offering an unforgettable day out.

Morning: Foraging Expedition

Begin your day at Ground Up Cookery School with refreshments before setting off on a guided walk. With our expert guidance, you’ll learn to identify and collect a variety of seasonal treasures—fruit, nuts, leaves, roots, or fungi—to take back to our kitchen. You will taste a whole host of new flavours along the way and learn the basic principles for safe foraging.

Afternoon: Cooking Workshop

Back at the cookery school, it’s time to transform your foraged finds into amazing dishes. You’ll learn practical cooking techniques, delicious recipes, and hone your skills—whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced cook ready to take on a new challenge.

We will share a meal at the end of the day with a glass of wine to taste the fruits of your labour. With any luck, there will be extras for you to take home—so don’t forget your containers!

Testimonials

“I took part in the 22nd June course on Foraging and cooking. This was absolutely incredible experience, you start the day with Colin, who’s experience and knowledge is entertaining, engaging and great to learn from. You quickly find yourself surprised with how easy it is, and where to find and not to find delicious plants and flowers you can use safely in your own kitchen. In the afternoon you get the chance to cook with the things you found in the morning creating with your class the most amazing dishes which you then get to share and try in a lovely lunch in a wonderful location.
Through out the day Colin gives you samples of delightful foraged dishes and inspires you to try this at home.
This was amazing day, and it’s an eye opening experience I highly recommended for people to do. You also get to make a delicious bread and take what is left of your dish home. Great Day and feeling inspired to do more!” D Pike, Facebook

“The most awesome day at #groundupcookery with Colin and Natasha. Fun, informative and best of all tasty. What this man doesn’t know about foraging isn’t worth knowing. Relaxed and informal setting, the day consisted of lots of knowledge, taste sensations and many foraging tips and takeaways. Even a free book to take home. You WONT be disappointed.” A Yendell, Facebook

I purchased the Wild Food Foraging and Cookery course for my brothers 40th birthday and it did not disappoint. Colin is amazing and extremely knowledgeable and the kitchen in the countryside was stunning. We will be back to do other courses.

Superb day

Enjoyed a terrific day in the expert hands of Colin. Exactly as advertised we foraged the hedgerows close to the school, sampling what I’d always ignored as weeds along the way. Some incredible and surprising tastes right there under our noses. Then back to the excellent cookery school for plenty of expert advice and relaxed chatter about a whole bunch of foraging and preservation styles and techniques before each pair created a dish that included a selection of our mornings forage. The whole day concluded with a feast of our works. It’s fair to say the whole day was full of surprises, new finds and overall an outstanding experience. I’m personally planning on sampling more of Colin’s days - a shore line forage is definitely on the cards.
